8 Financial Aid Dates Students Need To Know
Financial aid is money to help pay for college. Seniors and current college students need to know these dates in order to get the most money possible.
❶ October 1
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens. Colleges use this form to determine grants, scholarships, work-study and loans available for each student. Eligible undocumented students in Oregon should complete the Oregon Student Aid Application (ORSAA) which also opens October 1. Fill out the FAFSA or ORSAA as soon as possible but before June 1.
❷ November 1
OSAC Scholarship Application opens. Oregon students complete one application that is good for 500+ scholarships.
❸ March 1
OSAC Scholarship Application deadline. Complete it by the early bird deadline of February 15 to be in the running for an additional $1,000 scholarship.
❹ April 15
Federal and state taxes due. The FAFSA uses student and parent tax information from the previous year so be sure to file on time.
❺ May 1
Accept financial aid awards. Many colleges require a confirmation and deposit by this date so be sure to compare financial aid awards carefully. Remember – no need to accept all of the loans that a school offers.
❻ June 1
Oregon Promise deadline. A grant that covers most of the cost of community college in Oregon for eligible students. Make sure to complete the FAFSA or ORSAA by this date, too!
Search and apply for scholarships. There are countless scholarships available with a variety of different deadlines. Colleges might have specific deadlines for their own scholarships programs - remember to check these, too.
Additional financial aid forms due. Some colleges may have priority deadline for financial aid or require additional financial aid forms like the CSS PROFILE. Check college websites for any additional deadlines to keep in mind.
